Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco are sitting on top of the world, trying to Touch The Sky, as they return to Chicago today for a two-night homecoming.
[Although I do have the money to spend, I might not make it. It's gonna be too many Negroes and parking is hard to find around the United Center. Plus, the United Center is still in the 'hood, so I will pass.]
But Kanye has had a rough 6 months. Back on November 10, the whole hip-hop community
gasped when learning of his mom's untimely passing. Since then, he's been laying low- somewhat- but still managing to generate his own publicity.Overall, he makes our city proud because he's a good dude. I've never met him, but I have that gift to tell if a celebrity is fake or not.
Plus, Kanye reminds me of myself. At times, I'm outspoken, emotional, and a little arrogant. Sometimes, those things get me dissed in public or on this very blog. But I never back down. I only crack back like a dude named Zack. You betta not say nothin' crazy to me. I'm serious. I have multiple blogs as proof of that. (Like the time a family annoyance called me a midget)
And I have been rather critical of Kanye's outbursts, but I still respect his talent a whole lot. But he's not the only talented one on the bill....
LUPE THE GREAT
Besides Kanye, another native son will send it up this weekend. Wassalu Jaco (better known and more easier pronounced as Lupe Fiasco) grew up on Chicago's rough West Side.

His background is similar to mine- believe it or not. I grew up in slightly better neighborhoods, but both of us still had to struggle to survive. Lupe brings intellect to the hip hop game, while other artists rely on catchy hooks and mindless lyrics. And the public receiving him as a hip hop nerd is such a refreshing sign of change. But I think it's easier for a nerd to rap than a black man to be President. I'm sorry.
But back to my pointless post......
Both of these guys deserve a homecoming fit for a King. Kanye's the King of the South Side (my side); Lupe is the King of the West Side; and R. Kelly will soon be the King of the East Wing.
In light of Kelly's legal woes, it is good to see 2 guys from the CHI (or the 'Go- a nickname that inspired my blog's name) represent our city well.
Maybe we'll win the 2016 Olympics because of that.
*Okay, you can laugh now*

Nice!! While I DEFINITELY think Ye has some attention issues I admire that he makes his kinda music and raps about what every he wants to! It doesn't hurt that he is a MAD talented producer. I think I could rap over one of his tracks and become a star!!
And Lupe well he reminds me of ol' school hip hop back when I was in college. Back when there was Tribe, Black Sheep, LNOS, De La, The Jungle brothers...I could go on and on and REALLY show my age, but you get me. Hip Hop ain't dead as long as cats like Lupe, Talib, Mos, and Chicago's other [FINE] son, Common are around.
Sorry for the drool on your page because of Common. But on the real his intelligence makes him uber sexy if he was just some thug I'd be like eh he cute. *lol*
Have a good holiday!

Zack,
Lupe and Ye are two talented cats. I think Lupe is better lyrically but Ye has improved with every album.
Chicago should be proud of these two intelligent brothers!
I like Lupe a lot! Kanye West is clever! Wish them all the best!
I may possibly be the oldest hip-hop fan alive, but I too have long admired Kanye West. Beleive it or not,I have all three of his CD's and I have Lupe Fiasco downloaded on my daughter's I-pod, (Which I use more than she does...She has moved on to better gadgets.)I like them both because they bring fresh subject matter to the game. (You can only move so many "bricks" and kill so many negroes at one time.)Kanye has a sense of humor and irony that the gangsta rappers are too macho to use...another reason I like this brother..Plus the fact that he produced some of my favorite Jay Z cuts.
Life is short Zack, go to that concert if you can. I would but at
50, I'd look kinda silly in that crowd.
